Objectives and methodology

To familiarize the course participants with the epistemological and methodological foundations of the ATLAS.ti software (Windows version), in order to promote its use as a resource for the systematization, processing and analysis of qualitative data in social research.

Specific objectives

  1. Make an approach to the main concepts of research methodology that support the use of ATLAS.ti software for qualitative data analysis.
  2. Provide capabilities for the methodical management of software in the analysis and writing of results of studies and research in the social sciences.
  3. Promote and motivate the use of technological tools as analytical resources in qualitative research.

Methodology

The course is conceived as a theoretical-practical workshop. Its intention is to make participants aware of the main advantages of using software to support data management in qualitative research. To do this, it will be divided into 10 virtual sessions of 2 hours each, in which we will take a tour of the main software utilities. In turn, each session will be divided into two parts. In the first part, we will briefly review the main notions of qualitative methodology that allow us to better understand the logic associated with the use of software.

In the second part, students will receive a set of basic instructions necessary to properly undertake work with ATLAS.ti at each stage of qualitative analysis. For a better appropriation of the software's analytical tools, it is recommended that the work done in each session be accompanied by complementary autonomous work outside the classroom space applied to a project that must be presented as the final course work.

Requirements:

  • Computer with Windows operating system.
  • Latest version of the software installed (the trial version will be provided for those who do not have a license for the software).
