Tools for Traffic and Transportation Management

Description


The Course on "Tools for Traffic and Transportation Management" comprises three modules with which it seeks to acquire tools that allow the members of the GAD's to strengthen traffic management, control vehicle technical review centers and contribute with policies for the reduction of fuel consumption and vehicle emissions, all applied to the reality of small to intermediate cantons, which are the vast majority in our province and country.

Objectives and methodology


Specific objectives:

Apply tools and strategies for traffic management.

Identify the characteristics of a Vehicle Technical Review Center

Identify strategies to reduce fuel consumption and vehicle emissions in our cities

 

Methodology:

Contact hours: Keynote talks, interactive classes.

Autonomous work: Specific applications of the topics seen in class.

Laboratory practices: 1. Traffic simulation; 2. Eco-driving; 3. Measurement of fuel consumption in a vehicle.

 

Evaluation system:

Class work: 15%

Ratings: 40%

Autonomous Work: 30%

Contents


1 Module:

Introduction to traffic simulators: 

1.1 Introduction to traffic simulation at all levels, microscopic, mesoscopic and macroscopic.

1.2 AIMSUN simulator

to. Edition of geometry, scenarios, demands, control plans.

b. Model calibration, actual demands vs. Simulation.

c. Results: Analysis of dynamic traffic modeling results.

d. Traffic management: Preparation of conditions, strategies and policies for traffic management.

 

Module 2: Vehicle Technical Review Centers:

2.1 Theoretical foundations

2.2 Vehicle Technical Review

2.3 Inspection of the Vehicle Technical Review centers

 

Module 3: Vehicle regulations, consumption and eco-driving:

3.1 Regulations on public transport.

3.2 Fuel consumption

3.3 Eco-driving; 3.4 Laboratory practices

 

Certificates


A certificate of approval of the Course "Tools for Traffic and Transportation Management will be issued, for 50 hours, with the academic endorsement of the University of Azuay, with the requirement of passing 80% attendance and 70% evaluation of each module.

The course is aimed at public officials linked to the units or technical departments of the transit and transportation areas of the Municipalities or other entities related to the matter; officials and professionals interested in the subject, with previous knowledge.
